Bottled Water. Clean convenience, or pure phony?

This article is obviously very closely related to what we have been talking about in class over the past few days. It discusses the evils of bottled water. This is something that because of science class has become a very important issue to me because although we have many problems facing the Earth right now, this is one that we can all get behind all very easily. It makes sense. By not buying bottled water you are both saving money and the environment.
The article begins by discussing how not too long ago the idea of purchasing and consuming "bottled water", would have seemed outrageous. However now it is something that we see every day no matter where we go. It has sadly become a part of life. It then continues by saying how we have all basically been brainwashed by an overwhelming amount marketing and advertising to think that their bottled water is so much better than our tap water that we should pay several thousand times the cost for it. Imagine whats next. Pure canned air? I'm sure someone would pay for it.
The article then points out that most bottled water is just bottled or distilled tap water anyway. That is probably the one fact that everyone should know. If the general public knew that, I don't think nearly as many people would pay money for bottled water.

Questions:

1: What is your opinion on bottled water and why?
2: What do you think the average person can do to help solve this growing problem?
3: Who do you think is to blame for this problem and why do you feel this way?

  2. Opinion/Reflection: Ever since watching "Tapped" in Science class, I have tried my best not to drink bottled water. I mean, it's pretty much tap water in a bottle, but with more contaminants! There really is no point to bottled water, and it's only hurting the Earth and it's people. The part that makes me really upset is the fact that there isn't much to combat the large bottled water company due to the fact that they have found loopholes and other ways to show that what they're doing is perfectly legal.

Question #2: I think the average person can just refuse to buy bottled water. It's not like you can be forced to buy water from these companies. Instead, you can just drink the water from your tap.

  3. I think that you have a good point; bottled water would have sounded crazy a long time ago, but now it is as normal as drinking tap. All of the points of the article make sense, about water costing so much more bottled and not being any better quality. If they did make canned air, I'm sure that they would find some way to make it seem better and people would buy it.
Question #1- What is your opinion on bottled water and why?
I didn't have anything against bottled water until we learned about its many evils in class last week, but now I try not to use it, and I reuse bottles that I have already opened. Bottled water is very convenient, but it would be just as easy to buy a refillable water bottle that is not bad for the environment or my health.

  4. I was born into a world where bottled water seemed to be the norm and to be the best way to drink water. But when you really think about bottled water is just doing the oposite of good for our planet. First of all the plastic used in the bottles is hurtful to us and the environment. In addition to those affects bottled water is really just a big scam. In many cases we are just paying companies for something that we can get for free. That is just very wrong in my opinion. The bottled water companies are making a huge profit at no cost to them in addition to just taking water that alreay belongs to comunities all over the country.

1 What is your opinion on bottled water and why?

As I said before in my opinion bottled water is just plain horrible on all accounts. It is somethink that the idea of which should have never been brought up in the first place. I cant even think of a logical reason for why somebody would coe up with an idea like this. Bottleed water wouldnt be as bad fopr the world if it actually benefited us, which it certantly does not. All it really is ,is a scam by large corperation companies. For untill a couple of days ago; whentwe saw the movied "Tapped", I had a compleatly different perception on bottled water.

  5. I have definately decided to stop drinking bottled water as much as possible. This is horrible where they get their water, and what they do to compensate the earth where they got i from. They do nothing to replenish the earth or at least keep it at a good level. Their bottles are also bad for the environment and our bodies. We need to keep this in mind whenever we are drinking bottled water.
To answer question 2: I think every single one of us can stop these bottled water companies from growing simply by drinking tap water instead of bottled water. It will take less of a toll on the environment, our bodies, and will save us a ton of money.
